El acoplamiento de videocámaras al artroscopio, en la década de los 70, permitió al cirujano realizar la intervención intraarticular visualizándola en un monitor. La necesidad de obtener un archivo de imágenes, por razones científicas y médico-legales, han convertido al vídeo en elemento imprescindible en la columna de artroscopia, junto a la cámara y el monitor. Las actuales innovaciones tecnológicas en el campo de la fotografía y el vídeo han ampliado la oferta para poder guardar una documentación "visual" de las intervenciones artroscópicas. Nos estamos refiriendo a la tecnología digital. Presentamos las tecnologías actuales destinadas a la adquisición de imágenes en forma digital, almacenamiento y posibles utilidades.

Videoarthroscopy and digital technology. The coupling of videorecording cameras to the arthroscope, first carried out in the '70s, allowed the arthroscopic surgeon to perform intraarticular surgery under visual control through a monitor. The need to establish an image file, both for scientific and for médico-legal reasons, has tumed the videotape recorder into an indispensable element in the arthroscopy "column", together with the carnera and the monitor. The current innovations in the field of the photography and the video recording have enlarged the options for stablishing and filing «visual" documentation of arthroscopic procedures. This refers in particular to the applications of digital technology. We present and discuss the currently available technologies for digital acquisition and filing of images and their possible uses.
